Frequently Asked Questions

How does hypnotherapy actually work?

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis, or a trance-like state of focused attention, to modify a person's behavior, thoughts, or feelings. During hypnotherapy, a person is typically guided into an alpha or theta brain state by the hypnotherapist, who then makes suggestions to the person's unconscious mind. The idea behind hypnotherapy is that the unconscious mind is more receptive to suggestion while in this trance-like state, and that it is possible to use this state to make changes more easefully.

Can anyone do hypnotherapy?

It is recommended that hypnotherapy be conducted by a trained and licensed professional, such as a licensed clinical hypnotherapist (which I am). As accredited hypnotherapists, we have received specialized training in the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy techniques, and are able to safely guide individuals through this modality. As for the patient, there is no specific age at which a person can start using hypnotherapy and it can be applied to virtually all manner of blockages, traumas, hurdles, goals, and habits. If you are concerned about hypnotherapy's application to you, then don't hesitate to send a message so we can see on a personal level how hypnotherapy can be applied.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Hypnotherapy is safe and effective when it is conducted by a trained and licensed professional. During hypnotherapy, one may experience feelings of relaxation and a sense of detachment. Some people may also feel a sense of vulnerability while in hypnosis. These effects are typically short-lived and resolve once the hypnotherapy session is over. Hypnotherapists carefully screen individuals for their suitability for different types of therapy, for example certain psychiatric conditions, might require different techniques. When guided by an accredited professional, hypnotherapy is incredibly safe.

Will I lose control of myself in hypnotherapy?

While in a trance-like state, a person may feel a sense of detachment or a temporary loss of control, but they will not lose consciousness or be unable to remember what happened during the session. It is important to note that the hypnotherapist does not have control over the person's thoughts or actions while in hypnosis. The person is able to hear and respond to the hypnotherapist's suggestions, and they are able to come out of hypnosis at any time if they wish. So in short, no.

What can hypnotherapy help me with?

Virtually everything. This includes: phobias, addictions (such as smoking or alcohol dependency), anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, IBS, skin conditions, weight release, stress, performance anxiety, trauma recovery, menopause, behaviour change and self love and confidence.

How many hypnotherapy sessions do I need to notice a shift?

The number of hypnotherapy sessions needed to address a particular issue will vary depending on the individual and the specific issue being treated. Some people may see improvement after one session, while others may need more sessions to achieve their treatment goals. In general, the length and frequency of hypnotherapy sessions will depend on the individual's needs and preferences. This is why before we work together, I will discuss your needs and goals with you to develop an appropriate, customised hypnotherapy journey.
